In 1961, Ben Swildens, winner of a competition for Saint-Gobain, met Max Ingrand, who a few years earlier had designed the interior of the glass company's Neuilly headquarters. The following year, Max Ingrand called on Ben Swildens to help him design the French Pavilion at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. On the strength of his success, Max Ingrand created a decoration department within his company, which he entrusted to Ben Swildens. With the ambition of competing in projects for head offices, institutions and local authorities, the department grew from strength to strength, naturally winning the contract for Peugeot's head office in 1966. Ben Swildens designed three stainless steel desks for the reception hall on avenue de la Grande Armée, which were rolled up to form a single base, desk and chair.
