Ker-Xavier ROUSSEL (1867 - 1944) Le cortège de Bacchus, 1912 - Lot 51
Ker-Xavier ROUSSEL (1867 - 1944) Le cortège de Bacchus, 1912. Curtain project for the Comédie des Champs-Elysées theater. Pastel. Height 58.5 - Width 61.5 cm Commissioned for the Comédie des Champs-Elysées theater inaugurated in 1913, this project reflects Ker-Xavier Roussel's taste for monumental decoration and mythological themes. In a luminous, rhythmic composition, the artist presents nymphs and bacchantes celebrating Bacchus, the symbol of festivity and theater. Between allegory and pastoral reverie, Roussel offers a poetic and sensual vision of dramatic art, faithful to the spirit of the Nabis and the elegance of the theater décor designed by Auguste Perret.
