CORAN, Ottoman Turkey, Anatolia, Karahisar, signed and dated 1803: Manuscript on paper with 15 lines of text per page in naskhi Arabic in black ink, some signs in red ink. Manuscript introduced by a double frontispiece in unwân illuminated in gold and polychrome, the titles of the first two suras and the number of verses they contain written in white letters in gilded cartouches on either side of the text with lines separated by illuminated motifs, the whole framed by a floral border combining scrolls, palmettes and florets. Throughout the text, several illuminations in gold and polychrome, rosettes separating the verses, titles of suras written in white letters in gilded cartouches, floral marginal medallions marking the various divisions. On the last page, illuminated colophon giving, in a triangular cartouche framed by two floral spandrels, the name of the copyist Ibrahim known as Adhami in Karahisar l'orientale and the date 1218 H / 1803. Flap binding in garnet-red morocco with stamped then gilded decoration of a medallion and four poly-lobed spandrels decorated with hatayi floral motifs of fine stems trimmed with composite flowers and saz leaves. Counter plates later covered with ebru paper. Edges painted with gilded floral scrolls. Binding size: 15.5 x 11.2 cm.
