Cretté, succr de Marius Michel). First edition of Mardrus' translation, edited by François-Louis Schmied, published by M. M. Gonin et Cie, libraires-éditeurs in Lausanne. A splendid publication printed entirely in capital letters, as befits the Word of God, with the text of Genesis printed on a slender column, symbolizing the Word that rises. The illustration includes the cover and 42 woodcut color compositions, including 12 hors-texts, 12 headpieces, 10 endpieces, a headband and 7 vignettes, bits of imp rhymed lines in blue or orange. Edition of 195 copies, all on Arches, numbered and signed. Enriched with a refused plate annotated by the artist, the color decomposition suite of an engraving (21 plates on japon), a suite of woodcuts in black (43 plates on Arches) and the binding model signed by Schmied.
