ZOLA (Emile). Nouveaux Contes à Ninon. P., Conquet, 1886. 2 - Lot 176
ZOLA (Emile). Nouveaux Contes à Ninon. P., Conquet, 1886. 2 vols. in-8, blue morocco, ornate spines, framed with 4 threads, 2 lines of stippling and guir lande on the boards, inner tooth, gilt on witnesses, cons. cover (Cuzin). Edition of 500 copies, illustrated by Ed. Rudaux with a frontispiece and 30 etchings by the artist, contemporary with the book and typical of the period. ONE OF THE 25 FIRST COPIES ON JAPAN, containing 3 states of the engravings, including the pure etching. A superb copy, in an elegant contemporary binding by Cuzin père, to which we have added : 1) A beautiful l.a.s. to a colleague (Paris, April 15, 1878, one page in-8). Sending this colleague his new novel "Une Page d'Amour" (A Page of Love), Zola, who defends himself against being "an Impassible", adds this comment: "Emotion must come out of itself in a literary work. There's no need for an author to cry to make people cry. The oh! and the ah! add nothing to the tenderizing force of a book... in the end, I'm honored to be an enthusiast". 2) A magnificent signed autograph (one page in-8 on japon), excerpt from one of his novels. From the A. Vautier library (bookplate).
