LOUIS XV 1715-1774 Silver medal, dated 1752. Chamber of Commerce of Rouen (41,61 g). Divo 148 ; Nocq 140. Engraver : Jean Duvivier. Superb. Jean Duvivier (Liège, 1687 - Paris, 1761), French medalist. His father, Gendulphe Duvivier, engraver of stamps and of the prince-bishop's crockery, trained him in drawing. He moved to Paris in 1710 and was appointed official medallist to King Louis XV in 1719, succeeding Jean Mauger. Extremely prolific, he signed more than four hundred dies. Jean Duvivier was naturalized French. He married Marie-Louise Vignon (died September 28, 1752). From this union were born three sons: Pierre-Louis-Isaac (baptized May 23, 1727), Pierre-Simon-Benjamin (baptized November 5, 1730) and Thomas-Germain-Joseph (baptized August 31, 1735) and a daughter, Jeanne-Louise-Françoise, who married the engraver Jacques-Nicolas Tardieu. Pierre-Simon-Benjamin Duvivier was general engraver of the mints from 1774 to 1791.
