ANNE OF AUSTRIA 1602-1666 - Lot 860
ANNE OF AUSTRIA 1602-1666 Uniface medal in bronze, undated. Obverse of the medal of the Val de Grace (94 mm). TNG XXII,2. Engraver : Jean Warin. Hoop and ring of suspension. Later casting. Very beautiful. Struck on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the chapel of Val-de-Grâce, April 1, 1645. Queen Anne of Austria had vowed, during the 22 years of her sterility, to build a church if she became a mother. On September 5, 1638, she gave birth to a son, the future Louis XIV. On April 1, 1645, accompanied by her son, she solemnly laid the foundation stone of the Church of Val-de-Grâce on the site of the former convent of the Feuillantines. The cloister buildings were completed in 1662 and the church in 1665.
