FRANCOIS DE MANDELOT 1529-1588 Oval uniface silver medal, 1572 (122x94 mm). Mazerolle 456; Armand II, 253, 26; Jones I, 174; TNG XLVII,1. Nice medallion patina. Hanging hole. Beautiful portrait. Repolished blank. Very nice. François de Mandelot, lord of Passy, Lerné and Viteaux, captain of 100 men-at-arms, knight of Saint-Michel, governor of Lyonnais, Forez and Beaujolais, was born in Paris on October 29, 1529, son of Georges de Mandelot and Charlotte d'Igny. Contemporary of Charles IX, he was one of the pages of Jacques de Savoie, Duke of Nemours, then gentleman of the King's Chamber and lieutenant of the Duke of Nemours. He distinguished himself during the siege of Metz in 1552 and participated in the Italian wars against Charles V in 1551. Appointed lieutenant of the king in Lyon in 1568, he died in this city on November 24. This medal was struck in memory of the humanity that François de Mandelot displayed in tempering the orders of the Court at the time of the Saint Barthélémy.
