A Rouen, Chez Jacques Cailloué, 1651. 3 parts in one volume in-12 (105 x 167 mm), contemporary soft ivory vellum. "Last edition", presented in three parts: - the first containing De l'immortalité de l'Ame, followed by the OEuvres poëtiques du sieur Theophile, -- the second the continuation of the OEuvres [...] including, in fine, the tragedy Pirame & Thisbé, & --- the third the Recueil de toutes les pièces faites par Theophile pendant sa prison iusques a sa mort. [VI] ff. + 324 + 164 + 181 pp. [+ a handwritten title inserted before p. 111 and 8 pages, also handwritten, the first one on the verso of the title and the others, between pp. 112 & 113, 114 & 115, 116 & 117 and on the front of a leaf added between pp. 118 (misnumbered 112) & 119]. Pages 111 to 112 contain the poem entitled La Solitude à Alcidon which is not by Théophile de Viau, but by Marc Antoine Girard de Saint-Amant. On the intercalated sheets appears in manuscript the Latin translation of these verses. The treatise De l'immortalité de l'âme (On the immortality of the soul) describes the death of Socrates in verse and prose, and is an interesting testimony to the poetry of the time. It is followed by numerous short pieces of poetry (sonnets, odes, elegies...). From the libraries of the Institut des Oratoriens de Paris, with handwritten bookplate, and of the Grand Séminaire de Dijon, with wet-stamped bookplate, all on the title. all on the title. Brunet, V, 794-795.
