Franz KUPKA (1871-1957), painter. 2 L.A.S., 1924-1925, to Al - Lot 335
Franz KUPKA (1871-1957), painter. 2 L.A.S., 1924-1925, to Alfred PORCABEUF; 2 and a half pages, and 3 pages in-8 (the 2nd one with his address stamped in Puteaux). Interesting correspondence with the engraver and printer Alfred PORCABEUF (1867-1952). April 1, 1924. He assures him that he is "out of all manifestations of impatience", contrary to "these gentlemen from Prague": "In general they are very "greedy". Not polite and always bloated. I myself have had to digest quite a few crudités of this kind"... He is sorry to see that they attack him so directly, and thinks that the best course would be not to reply to them, to hasten the completion of the proofs and to send them to Professor HYNAIS in Prague... "... The very success of the reproduction will make you forget everything else and thus you will be the winner." If he wants to answer this beautiful letter, he advises him to announce the sending of the proofs to Mr. Hynais, but to ignore the 100 copies they ask him for... November 9, 1925. Invitation to lunch on Sunday at his home in Puteaux: "at our place the garden - surrounded by other gardens - offers, so to speak, a country aspect". He assures him that "the death of Hynais can in no way influence the matter of the diploma": if the 2nd printing order remains in the hands of Hynais, Dr. JIRIK, a close friend of the Hynais family, will take care of it. There is no need to worry...
