CHARTER. Charter in Latin, Le Mans August 27, 1276; parchmen - Lot 319
CHARTER. Charter in Latin, Le Mans August 27, 1276; parchment in-4 (26 x 21 cm; transcription attached). Rare 13th century charter concerning medicine. Deed passed before the Official of Le Mans concerning the Lombard physician Hugo ALTEMANI for the payment of his fees. Altemani came to Le Mans at the request of his compatriot "Rogerus lombardus" who left him 20 livres tournois in his will and appointed him as his executor along with Vitus abbot of La Couture, Master Pierre rector of the church of N.D. de la Couture, and two others. He asked for 30 livres parisis for his expenses and his pain, seeing that "ipse ad mandatum dicti Rogeri venerat de Parisius apud cenomamum pro adhibendo curam et remedium pro posse suo circa egritudinem de qua dictus Rogerus laborabat, et quod propter hoc fecerat magnas expensas et magnum laborem sustinuerat, et insuper propter hoc dimiserat iter suum eundi Romam quod paraverat, ut dicebat, unde dampna sustinuerat non modica"... Master Hugo composed with the other executors who, "pro bono pacis", gave him on the goods of the deceased and in addition to his bequest, the sum of 30 livres tournois in deniers, a grey dappled horse (lyardum), a cover, a pack-saddle and a travelling bag... A large charter on parchment of 1506 is attached; plus another document.
