Purse known as "aumônière" in skin lined with velvet embroid - Lot 287
Purse known as "aumônière" in skin lined with velvet embroidered with silver thread and decorated with fleurdelysé and coats of arms. End of the 18th century. Diameter 14 cm Wear and tear. The purses in the form of aumônière held coins and tokens. The arms embroidered on the bottom of our purse are blazoned apart, I and IV, azure with three fleurs-de-lis or and II and III, gules with the golden leopard. They are stamped with a crown of prince of the blood and surrounded by the collars of the orders of the King. A binding with identical arms, listed under plate number 2544 in the Manuel de l'amateur de reliures armoriées françaises, is attributed - despite the absence of a second leopard for Normandy - to the young Louis-Charles de France, born on March 27, 1785, titled Duke of Normandy before becoming upon the death of his older brother on June 4, 1789, the new dauphin of France, future Louis XVII. Dr Eugène Olivier, Georges Hermal, Capitaine B. de Roton, Manuel de l'amateur de reliures armoriées françaises, Paris, Bosse, 1924-1938.
