Henri DUPARC. MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph... - Lot 49 - Ferri & Associés
Henri DUPARC. MANUSCRIT MUSICAL autograph signed, Sérénade, 1869; 3 pages in-fol. (slight foxing, two small marginal slits). Melody for voice and piano: "If I were, O my lover, The breeze with the perfumed breath"... Based on a poem by Gabriel Marc, taken from his Soleils d'automne (Lemerre, 1869), this 46-bar melody was composed in the summer of 1869 and is part of the collection Cinq Mélodies op. 2 published by Flaxland in 1869, which Duparc would later disown. It is the only known manuscript, written in brown ink on a Lard-Esnault paper bifeuillet with 5 systems of 3 staves. It is signed and dated at the end "H. D. (August 16, 69)". In G, at 6/8, this romance in four verses reminds us of Gounod's melodies and Fauré's premieres. On the 4th page, a short piece for piano, Beaulieu ! signed and dated at the end " HD Samedi 16 Oct. 1869 ". The manuscript is in pencil, ironed in black ink. This short piece is 16 bars long.
