Brussels, second half of the 16th century. Height 290 - Width 546 cm Beautiful polychromy. Remarkable freshness of colors, good state of conservation. Restorations of maintenance. This hanging was part of the collections of Joan of Spain (1535-1573), sister of King Philip II of Spain. In 1552 she married Prince John Manuel, heir to the throne of Portugal. Jeanne had an important collection of tapestries which is only known to us through her known to us only through her inventory after death, most of the hangings having disappeared. The document mentions seven panels illustrating the theme of the story of King Solomon. Our tapestry is to be compared with another one, with an identical border, owned by the Toms collection in Zürich. Bibliography : Fernando Checa, Treasures of the Spanish Crown, Madrid, 2010.
