LEGER (Fernand). Le Cirque. Original lithographs. Paris, Tériade, 1950. In-folio (423 x 320 mm). Leaves, in illustrated full cover, slipcase. First edition of this book entirely composed by Fernand Le'ger, with lithographed text and illustrations. The artist drew inspiration from the Medrano circus performances he attended with Guillaume Apollinaire, Cendrars and Max Jacob. Limited edition of 300 copies, all on Arches ve'lin paper and signed by the artist, this one no. 97. Illustrated with 63 original lithographs by Fernand Le'ger, including 34 full-page stencil-colors, and a lithographed manuscript by Fernand Le'ger. Fernand Le'ger's numerous lithographs are reminiscent of Matisse's Jazz, also published in 1947 by Te'riade. by Te'riade. We have inserted a b.a.s. from Le'ger dated July 27, addressed to M. Maury in connection with an article in "The Arts" magazine, for which he thanks him.
