BASSELIN (Olivier) and LE HOUX (J.). Les Vaux-de-Vire édités - Lot 47
BASSELIN (Olivier) and LE HOUX (J.). Paris, Lance, 1833. Pet. in-12, green morocco, spine with long title surrounded by 3 threads and adorned with 2 small escutcheons, boards entirely covered with parallel gold fillets arranged in a very curious manner in two different directions, starting from the edge and meeting in the center, inner dent, gilt tr. (Corfmat). The best edition of the works of these two poets from Var, giving the collection of songs that were sung after meals in the Norman Bocage. It was printed in Avranches by E. Tostain and contains 41 previously unpublished Vaux-de-Vire, omitted from previous editions (Frère: Bibl. normande, t. I, p. 72). PRECIOUS EXEMPLAIRE, IN A CURIOUS TIME BINDING, SIGNED BY CORFMAT, probably executed for an exhibition and which appears as a prototype of the modern filleted and geometrically decorated bindings executed in the 20th century by master bookbinders such as Legrain, Bonnet. Provenance : - Bibliothèque du Dr. A. Ripault (First part of his sale, Paris 1924, no. 163) - Whitney Hoff Library (T. II, 1933, no. 592, report. pl. CXII).
