Very fine work, with portrait, 2 engraved title-frontispices and 119 hors-texte steel engravings (including 1 map), each protected by a serpente.
An accomplished English landscape artist initially trained in architectural drawing, Bartlett produced romantic views inherited from the aesthetics of Turner and Constable; moreover, most of the engravers who worked with Bartlett had been trained by Turner. Bartlett visited North America four times: in 1836-1837, in 1838, in 1841 and in 1852.
A remarkably fresh copy in full Romanesque binding (inf. staining to qq. ff.). Exceptional condition.
