SAINT-NON (Jean Claude Richard, abbé de) (1727-1791). Recueil de Griffonis, de Vues, Paysages, Fragments antiques et Sujets historiques, gravés tant à l'eau-forte qu'au lavis par M. l'abbé de Saint-Non S. l. n. d. (Paris, ca. 1780). Large folio (484 x 317 mm), full binding, red morocco, broad greek border, spine ribbed, inner tooth, gilt edges. Title and 156 plates with 294 etched or aquatinted subjects. (Contemporary binding).
FIRST EDITION. The abbé de Saint-Non, a distinguished amateur, set out to reproduce by engraving the principal curiosities that Italy presents in paintings and antique fragments. He had these paintings and curiosities drawn by various artists he took with him to Italy, including Fragonard, Leprince and Hubert-Robert.

The present collection is composed as follows:
- Title and 8 views of Rome by Le Prince and Robert.
- Varie vedute del gentile mulino dissegnate dal Principe [Le Prince]. 8 plates with 20 engravings after Le Prince, Boucher and Fragonard.
- Racolta di Vedute da Roberto, 3 plates with 12 views.
- Fragmens choisis dans les Peintures et les tableaux les plus intéressants de l'Italie.
- First suite: Rome. 13 plates with 28 engravings.
- Second suite: Rome. 13 plates with 26 engravings. The two Rome suites are dated 1770-1771.
- Third suite: Bologna. 20 plates with 40 engravings, dated 1772.
- Fourth suite: Venice. 19 plates with 38 engravings, dated 1774.
- Second suite: Naples. 15 plates with 30 engravings.
- Second suite from Naples. 10 plates with 20 engravings.
The two Naples suites are dated 1773.
- Objects of antiquity]. 18 numbered plates, addressed to La Voy, Paris and dated 1763.
- Bas-reliefs and objects].
- 5 plates with 10 engravings.
- 22 plates with 38 aquatint engravings.
- One plate with 6 engravings.
This number of plates corresponds to the most complete copy known (Destailleur, sale 1895, no. 1230).
SUPERB EXEMPLAIRE BOUND IN FULL EPOQUE MAROQUIN, VRAISEMBLABLEMENT BY BRADEL (extremely rare condition, slight stain on 2nd board).
