GUERARD (NICOLAS), engraver (circa 1648-1719). Proverbes. A Paris chez N. Guérard, s. d. (late 17th century). Small folio, half marbled calf, ornate spine with garnet-red title page, red pages (modern binding). Very fine and interesting collection of 24 satirical engravings from the late 17th century, on the fashions and mores of the time and "of all times for many of them" - When money talks everyone is silent. - Everything is shown on the bright side. - Bad housekeeping and the panty debate. - Fashionable marriage. - The perpetual carnival. - La Coquette These engravings were sold separately at the time. They are here in very bright contemporary colors, with gold highlights for some plates, and with good margins (one is doubled, small stains on 2 others), all bearing a title and accompanied by verses or phrases. EXTREMELY RARE COLLECTION.
