[BOTANICS] BUCHOZ (Pierre Joseph). Collection précieuse et enluminée des fleurs les plus belles et les plus curieuses qui se cultivent tant dans les jardins de la Chine que dans ceux de l'Europe, A` Paris, chez De Bure l'Aine' et chez l'auteur, s. d. [1779]. One folio volume (450 x 280 mm), red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, boards framed with gilt fillets, inner dent, gilt edges (early binding).
EXEMPLE IN TIMELY MAROQUIN OF REMARKABLE FRICHEUR of this magnificent and very rare work.
This volume (Vol. 2) comprises the "Most beautiful plants found in the gardens of Europe", i.e. 100 finely watercolored color plates, numbered (the hundredth followed by the words "and last"). It follows a first volume featuring "Les Jardins de la Chine" published in 1776.
A very rare and magnificent work by physicist and naturalist Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807). This second volume includes not only European plants, but also specimens from America and Africa. Following on from the collection of Chinese gardens, the drawings remain strongly influenced by the Chinese style, which Buchoz was one of the first to use.
