[BOURBONNAIS] - FAYE. Essai sur les Eaux Minérales et Médicinales de la Ville de Bourbon-l'Archambault. A Moulins, chez la Ve Faure et Vidalin, 1778. In-12, red morocco, spine decorated with green morocco title-piece, framed with 3 gilded fillets and corner fleurons on the boards, coat of arms in the center, interleaved teeth, blue paper endpapers, gilded edges (contemporary binding). The author was a physician and Intendant of these waters. - The work is decorated with two beautiful engraved folding views of the "Chateau et Bains de Bourbon Lanci" and the "Bains de Bourbon-l'Archambault". A very fine copy, bearing the arms of JEAN-FREDERIC PHELYPEAUX COMTE DE MAUREPAS ET DE PONTCHARTAIN (1701-Versailles-1781), Knight of Malta, Secretary then Minister of State, disgraced in 1749 for having written an epigram against Madame de Pompadour, he was rehabilitated by Louis XVI (1776), who made him his Minister of State and Head of the Royal Council of Finance. He took part in the American War (Olivier, 2265).
