ALMANACH from the 18th century to transformations. Amusing Varieties. Etrennes aux gens de bon Goût. Paris, Crépy, s.d. [calendar for 1783]. In-16 square (115 x 90 mm), blue morocco, ornate spine, triple framing thread on plus, inner tooth, untrimmed (Chambolle-Duru). Almanach chantant de sujets galants et à transformations, entirely engraved and watercolored at the time: curious title-frontispiece (here in two different colors) depicting the comedian Volonté, from the Théâtre de la Foire, in his role as Janot, or les battus pay l'amende, and 8 delightful compositions on fold-out leaves, depicting characters in interchangeable costumes. Engraved couplets accompany the scenes, and the calendar for 1783, in 2 sheets, is printed in black and red. RARISSIVE AND PRECIOUS ALMANACH, of which only two or three copies are known, including the one in the Henri Lavedan collection (No. 96 in the sale catalogue), incomplete with the calendar.
