TOPFFER (Rodolphe). Nouvelles Genevoises. Illustrated after the author's drawings. Engravings by Best, Leloir, Hotelin and Régnier. Paris, Dubochet et Cie, 1845. In-8, leaves, in white illustrated cover, folder and slipcase, forming a long-grained green half-maroq binding, spine decorated throughout in the Romantic taste (Mercier, succr de son père, 1911). FIRST ISSUE of Töpffer's famous illustrations: Frontispiece, 39 out-of-text engravings with captions and 200 woodcut vignettes in the text. A superb copy in leaves, with its original illustrated cover in mint condition, to which has been added an original Töpffer pen-and-ink drawing in the format of the book, a design for the decoration of the publisher's binding, and the book's illustrated prospectus. "One of Töpffer's good works, very rare in fine condition" (Carteret, III, 585). From the libraries of Paul Gavault (sale April 17, 1913, cat. no. 621) and René Descamps-Scrive (bookplate, cat. II, 1925, No. 336).
