PARIS STREETS (Les). Ancient and modern Paris. Origins, history, monuments, costumes, customs, chronicles and traditions. Paris, Kugelmann, 1844. Two large volumes in-8, red chagr., boards framed with a wide dent. with a central plaque representing the city's coat of arms surrounded by various subjects: locomotive, fountain, views of monuments..., spines decorated throughout, intér. dent. lining and endpapers in white moiré paper, untrimmed gilt tr. (publisher's binding). FIRST EDITION. Two frontispieces, 41 out-of-text compositions and numerous wood-engraved vignettes in the text after Daumier, Edouard de Beaumont, Gavarni, Célestin Nanteuil, Jules David, etc. Some vignettes are common to Envirirons. Some vignettes are common to Environs de Paris, published the same year by the same same publisher. The texts were written by Louis Lurine, director of the publication, Eugène Briffault, Jules Janin, Louis Huart... EXTREMELY RARE, IN FULL DECORATED BINDINGS, AS NEW. From the library of E.
