The illustrations for these two beautiful publications, which follow one another, include two frontispieces reproducing the provincial coats of arms, one printed in gold, the other in color, a portrait of Chateaubriand after Girodet-Trioson in the first volume, three maps with colored outlines, 13 plates of coats of arms in color, a plate of coins, 63 wood-engraved or steel-engraved plates out of text and around 400 wood-engraved vignettes in the text, mainly after
Leleu, Penguilly and Tony Johannot. SUPERB EXEMPLAIRS in their attractive, fresh romantic boards. Faint marginal foxing at the beginning of the volumes and a few yellowed leaves, as always.
