Second part. (Paris, Curmer, 1842-43). Two parts in two volumes, large in-8, red half-chagr., spines adorned throughout with "rocaille" irons and small special irons (monkeys, peacocks, owls, birds, butterflies...) pushed in gold, chagrined paper boards framed with gold fillets, white moire endpapers. gilt (Contemporary binding).
FIRST EDITION. Considerable publication, very rarely complete, illustrated with 182 steel-engraved (65) and wood-engraved (117) hors texte plates after Féart, Marvy, Jacque, Daubigny, Beaucé, Delacroix, etc., 32 of which finely colored at the time, the latter mainly on ornithological and botanical subjects, some after Descourtilz. Numerous woodcut vignettes in the text.
A superb, fresh copy in a highly decorative romantic binding, an extremely rare condition for this work.
