In-8, full binding, blue morocco, spine decorated between each rib with a gilt violin framed in small gilt irons, 3 gilt wires framing the boards, inner tooth, gilt tr. on brochure, cover and spine cons. (Chambolle-Duru). PRECIOUS UNIQUE EXEMPLAIRE printed on Japan paper especially for the publisher, it contains all the engravings in their various states and is adorned with two very fine original watercolors: the first by Adeline covering the faux-title with a dispatch from the illustrator to Conquet, the second placed at the end of the preface is a superb composition by Paillet depicting the author of the book at his tr avail table, with a dispatch from the artist to Conquet. Bound at the beginning of vol. 2 l. a. s. from the illustrator (4 pp. in-8) concerning the decoration of the book and 2 letters from Champfleury to Conquet concerning the copyright settlement for the preface.
