ROMANTIC BOX FOR CHILDREN (Costumes with transformations). P., Rousseau, n.d. (ca. 1840). Cardboard box (31x45x6 mm.), sides decorated with pink and gold paper, lid decorated with a beautiful coloured lithogr. depicting three women in costumes of the time, one of them busy dressing a little girl standing on a chair, lithogr. signed Bommier (with names of publisher and impr.), framed in green and gold with band trimmed with roses. Beautifully preserved romantic children's box. The inside of the lid contains a large coloured lithogr. representing an interior of the time. The box has 6 compartments with in the center a rosewood psyche with arched top, resting on two mobile feet. In the right compartment, four women and two girls, cut and colored lithographs. In the left compartment 30 various costumes for women (24) and girls (6). In the bottom right and left 2 small cardboard boxes, in one 4 feet lined with old red and green velvet, intended to support and hold upright the dressed characters, in the other 24 delightful little headdresses.
