OPUSCULES OF LOVE, by Heroet, La Borderie, and other divine - Lot 146
OPUSCULES OF LOVE, by Heroet, La Borderie, and other divine poets. Lyon, Jean de Tournes, 1547. In-8, blue morocco, spine decorated, central diamond pattern inspired by Tournes' ornaments, inner dent. gilt edges. (Trautz-Bauzonnet). First edition, a very rare collection, remarkably printed in italics by Jean de Tournes, containing most of the poems composed in 1542 on the Platonic quarrel: the Parfaicte Amye and the Androgyne de Platon by Antoine Heroet, the Amye de Court, the Contre-Amye and the Discours du voyage de Constantinople by Laborderie, as well as pieces by Ch. Fontaine, Paul Angier and Papillon. All these pieces composed by poets who were disciples of Marot are important for the literary history of the Renaissance. Cartier, 90. A superb copy from the libraries of Pixerécourt (1838, no. 625), Ch. Nodier (1844, no. 371), Baudelocque (1850, no. 514), Yemeniz (1867, no. 1795), L. de Montgermont (1876, no. 308), Lignerolles (1894, no. 1410), Brunetière (1908, no. 109), Pierre Louÿs (1930, no. 217) and A. P. Garnier (1978, cat. no. 95). An autograph note by P. Louÿs has been included in the volume, in which he lists the owners with the selling prices and indicates that: "first bound in red marble by Dérôme, this book was bound again by Koehler in red marble with decorated compartments. It was Lignerolles who had this second binding replaced by the one by Trautz, by devoutly concervating the exmusaeo of Nodier".
