...TREATS BLACK PEOPLE. 9 L.S. by the Ministers of the Navy and the Colonies Baron PORTALIS (2) and the Marquis de CLERMONT-TONNERRE (7), 1821 and 1823, to the State Councillor FAURE; 1 or 2 pages in-fol. each with the heading Ministère de la Marine et des Colonies. Letters accompanying the dispatch of documents (not attached) concerning proceedings against vessels suspected of trafficking : "the bombing of the Marie de Marseille, accused of having disembarked in 1818 64 black slaves on the territory of Cayenne", the Félix du Havre which "allegedly took 17 black slaves from the African coast and disembarked in Guadeloupe", the Silence which was to sail from Africa to Brazil, the Caroline of Martinique seized at Cape Mesurado "with a cargo of slaves", etc., etc. Two documents are attached (one torn) concerning the shipment of coffee from Isle Bourbon (1819-1820).
