CHARLES VIII (1470-1498) King of France. L.S. "Charles", Saint-Just lès Lyon April 24 [1498], to the "gens de noz comptes et tresoriers" in Paris; countersigned by Martin PEGUINEAU; 1 page small in-4, address on the back (small slit in one fold). On the reception of his cousin Philippe de LUXEMBOURG at the bishopric of Thérouanne [in the current department of Pas-de-Calais, the seat of this former bishopric occupied an important strategic place]. "Following the postulation which was justly and canonically made by the deity and chapter of the church of Therouenne in their future bishop and pastor, the person of our dearest cousin the Cardinal of Luxembourg, whom we have been very pleased with, and some bull obtained at the end of the Holy See applied. We have this day received our cousin's credence to the oath of fidelity which he was obliged to make because of the temporal land places chastaulx fruitz and revenuz of the said student of Therouenne". He asks to follow the letters patent of this reception, in order to make and leave "nostredit cousin joyr et user dudit temporel terres places chastaulx fruitz et revenuz dudit eveschié de Thérouenne" ...
