ROGER-MARX (Cl.). The Loïe Fuller. Estampes... - Lot 392 - Ferri & Associés
ROGER-MARX (Cl.). The Loïe Fuller. Estampes modelées de Pierre Roche. P., Les Cent Bibliophiles, 1904. In-4, in ff. with illustrated cover and publisher's portfolio. First edition illustrated with 19 gypsographs in colour, in the text, including a double-page cover by Fernand Massignon, known as Pierre Roche, representing the famous dancer. He is the inventor of this process of embossed print or gypsography (printing on moistened paper from a plaster mould) used here for the first time. Edition at 130 numbered copies on strong vellum of Rives. This astonishing achievement marks a date in the history of the illustrated book, it is one of the most successful attempts at graphic research in the history of the Modern Style. It is printed in the italic typeface created by Georges Auriol, whose first use it is. Rare. Carteret Illustrés, IV, p. 345 ("Curious and interesting essay of gypsographic illustration, much sought after"), Crauzat, I, pl. LXXXI.
