REDON. PICARD, Edmond. Le juré. Monodrama in five acts. Seven original interpretations by Odilon Redon. Brussels, Mme Ve Monnom, 30 August 1887. In-4 (284 x 227 mm), publisher's full ivory vellum binding with flaps by Claessens, with its label, corner fleurons and spine decorated with a special iron depicting the scales of justice, smooth spine, red morocco title-piece, n. r. UNIQUE EDITION, LIMITED TO 100 numbered COPIES printed on Hollande van Gelder paper (this one n° 42 for J. Destrée). Text of the drama printed in sanguine, that of the introduction in black. 9 illustrations outside the text, including 7 original lithographs by Odilon Redon, printed off-text on Japon (Mellério, 75-81), his self-portrait and the portrait of Picard by Théo van Rysselberghe. The lithographs for this edition were printed on Becquet's presses. In 1886 Redon took part in the avant-garde exhibition "Les XX" in Brussels. Picard's play, Le juré, was intended to be read, rather than performed, and it was in 1887 that Picard gave a reading of this text in the premises of the "XX" with Redon's illustrations hanging on the walls.
