SALLUSTRE. Histoire de la République romaine, dans le cours du VIIe siècle... À Dijon,chez Frantin, 1777. 3 vols. in-4, long-grained green morocco, spine decorated with lyre, sphinxes and loves, wide lace with corner fleurons on the boards, inner dent. gilt. (Bound by Mairet). Edition given by the President Ch. de Brosses, decorated with a very beautiful portrait engraved by Saint-Aubin after Cochin as well as with many engraved figures, some folding: maps, portraits and medals. Copy complete of the fragments which should be found at the end of the last volume but are often missing. SUPERB BINDING, IN THE PUREST EMPIRE STYLE, SIGNED BY MAIRET, THE FAMOUS BOOKBINDER OF DIJON, whose signature is extremely rare. Peignot praised Mairet's bindings in his "Traité du choix des livres" and M. H. Beraldi owned two books bound by him, of which he was very proud. (Slight stains on the boards).
